Animal Science BTI - Career Pathway
Year 10-12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Agriculture
This course provides knowledge, experience, and science-based curriculum around the field of animal sciences and related career options. Students will have experiences in various animal science concepts with exciting hands-on activities, projects, and problems. Students’ experiences will involve the study of animal anatomy, physiology, behavior, nutrition, reproduction, health, selection, and marketing. Students will explore hands-on activities and projects similar to those that animal science specialists (such as veterinarians, zoologists, livestock producers, and industry personnel) encounter in their respective careers. Students will also develop a Producer’s Management Guide as a yearlong project on the care and management of an animal. Students have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits (ANS 121) through this course. Students will have the opportunity to compete in the Meat Science, Horse, and Livestock Judging Career Development Events. The FFA and SAE programs will be an integral part of the class.
