Intro to Agriculture BTI - Career Pathway
Year 9-12
This is a basic course where students will learn about the history and importance of agriculture. Students will be introduced to the FFA and the opportunities it provides, as well as the Supervised Agricultural Experience program (SAE). Students will learn about soils, crops and weeds, and explore opportunities involving agricultural leadership and public speaking. Students will study and role play a variety of agricultural sales and marketing scenarios specifically: advertising, prospecting, sales presentations, and taking orders via the phone. They will study the pros and cons of current issues in Oregon agriculture, applied debate, and beginning parliamentary procedure. Students will explore food science and technology, meats and dairy foods, livestock evaluation, and basic greenhouse applications. Students will learn tractor safety and potentially receive their tractor driving certification. This class will provide opportunities for students to compete at the local, district, and state FFA levels. FFA will be an integral part of this class and students should have a desire to explore and participate in FFA activities.
