Plant Science BTI - Career Pathway
Sem 1    10-12
Prerequisite: Introduction to Agriculture
This course is intended to build a foundation on the Introduction to Agriculture course. Plant science is an integration of the various relationships between physical science, life science elements, production agriculture, and agribusiness.  This course explores fundamental agricultural principles and concepts, including: introductory plants, soil science, pest and weed control, plant parts and functions, plant growth requirements, photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, plant care and maintenance, basic greenhouse management, and other related topics. The FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience program (SAE) will be an integral part of the class; all students will have the opportunity to be involved in FFA, allowing them to participate in related Career Development Events (CDEs) and field trips. Student also have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits (HORT 111) through this course.

Greenhouse Management BTI - Career Pathway
Sem 2    10-12
Prerequisite: Plant Science
This course is intended for students to apply skills learned in the Plant Science course. Students in this class will receive instruction in basic plant growth, plant science, and horticulture practices through exciting “hands-on” activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will include the study of soils, plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production. Plant propagation and skills related to plant care will be taught. Students will apply knowledge and skills gained in a hands-on plant production setting. Students will spend a significant amount of time working in the greenhouse in the spring and learn career and business skills related to the horticulture industry. The FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience program (SAE) will be an integral part of the class. Students also have the opportunity to earn 3 college credits (HORT 111) through this course.
